Kuan-Wen Huang stumbled upon the world of stand-up comedy during a break from his corporate career while in Berlin back in November 2015. Inspired by the experience, he made the decision to relocate back to Britain in the summer of 2016 to pursue a career in comedy.
Kuan-wen is known for his fast-paced and "effervescent" performances on stage. He brings a unique blend of perspectives to his comedy, drawing from his experiences as a bewildered immigrant, his bubbly gay persona, and the contrasting roles he has played in life—ranging from a UK chartered accountant and tax advisor during the day to a former lieutenant in the Taiwanese army and the son of a demanding "tiger mum." With his witty observations, Kuan-wen fearlessly explores topics of gender, race, social classes, and cultural differences, while always finding a way to poke fun at himself, his host country, and pretty much everyone else.
Kuan-wen Huang is an emerging comedian, writer, and actor from Taiwan who has made significant breakthroughs in the UK comedy circuit over the past two years. In 2019, he achieved the impressive feat of being the runner-up in the Frog and Bucket World Series. Known for his unique voice and trademark quirky persona, Kuan-wen is an alumnus of the esteemed Soho Theatre Young Company. He has also had the opportunity to perform for Comedy Central at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2020 and recorded Comedy Central Live in 2022—a testament to his growing recognition and success. In the UK comedy scene, Kuan-wen is becoming an increasingly recognizable face among performers of East Asian heritage. For three consecutive years, he has been a part of the Yellow Xmas comedy show, which showcases top East Asian stand-ups. Sharing the bill with renowned comedians like Phil Wang, Evelyn Mok, Nigel NG, Ken Cheng, and Yurijo Kotani, Kuan-wen continues to make his mark. Additionally, he takes pride in being a queer performer and has been featured in various pride events and the lineup for 21 Soho's LGBTQ+ History Month.
With his experience and expertise, Kuan-wen is a seasoned comedy show compere. He regularly hosts the New Acts Try Out night at Downstairs at the King's Head. He has also had the honour of hosting various heats and the final of the LGBTQ+ New Comedian of the Year competition in 2019 and 2022. Currently, Kuan-wen is hard at work writing his first solo hour, which is sure to be an exciting and laughter-filled experience.
