He's got the Comedy Xtra-Factor - It's the amazingly hilarious comedian, Matt Richardson!
Matt Richardson is a multi-award winning stand-up comedian who has taken the comedy circuit by storm!
Back in 2009, at the young age of 18, Matt dove headfirst into the world of stand-up comedy, quickly earning a spot as one of the youngest comedians on the circuit. His talent shone bright as he soared to the finals of prestigious competitions like So You Think You’re Funny and the Chortle Student Comedy Award. Not to mention, he nabbed runner-up in the Reading Comedy Festival New Act of the Year and clinched victories at the Newbury and Bath Comedy Festival new act competitions – all before even hitting his twenties!
As Matt's star continued to rise, he became a familiar face in comedy clubs across the UK, even jetting off for gigs overseas on countless occasions. Fast forward to 2020, and Matt's charm and wit have landed him gigs as a seasoned TV host, gracing screens with shows like The Hangover Games on E4 and The Red Bull Soapbox Race on Dave. You might have caught him co-hosting Celebrity Haunted Mansion and Celebrity Haunted Hotel alongside Christine Lampard or helming solo spin-off shows. And let's not forget his captivating ITV2 Documentaries, Pampered Pooches: Hollywood and Meet The Family Guys, filmed in sunny LA.
Before focusing on his true passion for comedy, Matt spent three years as the vibrant host of Virgin Radio’s Drive Time Show. He also co-hosts the hilarious podcast When No One’s Watching, where he shares the mic with none other than Matt Willis of Busted fame.
Matt Richardson could also have been heard bringing his infectious energy to Oxfordshire radio station Jack FM as its newest breakfast host. Returning to his roots in Oxfordshire, where he was born and recently resettled after nearly a decade in London, Matt expressed his excitement, saying, "I know how the people of Oxfordshire tick because I am one of them." Returning home and taking up this radio gig also gives him the great opportunity to continue organising his Laughing Ox stand-up nights across venues in Oxfordshire.
Matt has become a staple at all the top comedy clubs throughout the UK, delighting audiences with his comedic prowess. He's also taken his talent overseas on numerous occasions, spreading laughter far and wide.
In 2013, Matt embarked on his first award-winning tour, Hometown Hero, taking audiences on a riotous ride through 54 dates until spring 2014.
After a brief hiatus from touring, he returned with a bang, bringing his show Slash to Edinburgh in 2017 for a whopping 60 dates and followed it up with Imposter, wowing audiences at the Edinburgh Festival.
On the small screen, Matt's presence shines brightly with a plethora of TV appearances. From co-hosting the Xtra Factor on ITV to entertaining viewers on Never Mind the Buzzcocks on BBC Two, and bringing his wit to shows like Sweat the Small Stuff on BBC Three, Comedy Game Night, Roast Battle on Comedy Central, Celebrity Juice and CelebAbility.
Matt's charm knows no bounds. You might have also caught him on Big Brother's Bit on the Side on Channel 5 or adding his comedic flair to I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here Now! on ITV2.
Matt also appeared on Dancing on Ice but was eliminated in his first week on the show. Despite stepping in as a replacement for Rufus Hound, who had to withdraw due to Covid-19, he was unable to win in the skate-off against Olympian Colin Jackson, with the judges ultimately choosing to save the sportsman and ending Matt's time on the ice.
Reflecting on his experience, Matt expressed relief but also gratitude for the opportunity, praising his partner Vicky Ogden for her support throughout the journey. Though his time on the ice was brief, Matt's spirit and determination shone bright, leaving behind memories of a challenging yet exhilarating experience.
So, keep an eye out for Matt – he's definitely a rising star to watch in the comedy world!
